Qanats were originated in Iran thousands of years ago.
Khuzestan, particularly Dezful, is famous for its Qanats that were dug so that Dez river and surface water replace groundwater.
Aqamir, a network of underground tunnels, was one of the qanats system used to supply Dezful with water for drinking and irrigation.
Aqamir has been recently restored. It attracts many tourists who are interested in seeing how water was transported in Dezful in the past.
